The fields hold many special memories for me one being my bad ass friend (R.I.P)Pelmer(CoolBob)Boyd
Pelmer and i worked together in the field and hung out after and weekends to enjoy our favorite beverage.I remember going to Kunkles onion farm before sunrise and work all day pulling weeds or working in the barn.I liked when we weeded more then baging the damn things,A semi would hold 21 pallets and i believe 5 to a row and 7 high /pallet the bags were made of like a burlap and you had to tie each bag after filling with 50 pounds of onions,The bags would make your hands bleed after about the 5th pallet(lol)hated that part of the job,Pelmer and i got to be the best of friends and his wife and mine at the time were also good friends.I remember the last day i saw him,He and his daughter melissa and his wife gracie came over for a cook out and we changed the oil in my 72 chevelle ,there a storie to that oil change as well..lol.We had a wonderfull day and had steak and beers(many)i was like 17 at the time,gracie wanted to take melissa home and so i said i would give him a ride to his moms later as she only lived a few miles down the dirt road i lived on,well i dropped him off and he got a ride back to town where he partied a little more at a local bar and got a ride back to his moms,his mom was not there so he set a 6 pack of beer on the porch and headed to my house,as he reached M-99 he passed out on the hill and a suburban didnt see him and ran over him in the road,I remember his family coming to my house to wake me up,crazy time for sure,I have lost to may friends over the years,I didnt go back to the onion fields after,Soon after that i left for the service.A crazy thing happened in 2010 we were at the library in Albion at a parahaunt thing around halloween and we had a medium that was there and she said that pelmer was standing in the back of the room and he came through(lol)same road he was killed on a few miles away,so it gave me comfort that he is still watching from above..I still sometimes take a ride obver to the fields just to ride by,i always find myself getting to the part of the road and raising my hat and saying reast in peace cool bob love you man..
