LUDINGTON—
When it comes to an Amber Alert, law enforcement and family members are always involved in the search. But volunteers can also play a 'big role' in the process, including groups that specialize in knowing what to do, when time is of the essence. The Missing You Foundation is a non-profit agency. They lead and organize searches, everything from flyers, to boots on the ground. It's a collective effort from dozens of volunteers from around the country, each with a passion for bringing people home.
the middle of Jamie Jones’ house is a command post.
“I can be out in 10 minutes, have my gear on and ready to go," he said.Through the Missing You Foundation Jones has volunteered on hundreds of cases: from the missing Skelton boys to Amy Henslee.
"Generally it's always family and friends that contact us first 90 percent of the time," he said.
Right now they're focused on Katherine Phillips, the 4-month-old missing in Ludington.
“Getting the word out, getting flyers out, we have several links to downloadable flyers on our page," Jones said.
Jones keeps a candle burning at all times in the little girl's honor, often working through the night to update her website, which has received more than 4 million hits. It’s dedication that often brings heartache. But, volunteers say they keep doing it for the faces on their computer --- countless people waiting to be found.
“I hate when somebody's missing, I feel like it's my job and I have to find them for the family," Jones said.
Missing You Foundation doesn't accept monetary donations, instead they have people donate items searchers need, like cases of water or hand warmers.
